An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Clinical Haematology at Manchester Royal Infirmary as a Senior Locally Employed Doctor.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for doctors who have completed IMT-level training and wish to gain broad experience in clinical haematology before applying for specialty training. It is equally suited to doctors seeking a longer-term middle-grade role or considering a future CESR pathway.

Working within one of the UK's leading tertiary haematology centres, you will gain exposure to malignant and non-malignant haematology, stem cell transplantation, cellular therapies, haemostasis and thrombosis, haemoglobinopathies, lymphoma, myeloma and general haematology. You will work alongside a highly experienced multidisciplinary team and benefit from excellent training, teaching and research opportunities.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality care to haematology patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Managing patients within inpatient wards, day units and outpatient clinics.
  • Participating in specialist haematology services including transplantation, myeloma, lymphoma, haemostasis and thrombosis, haemoglobinopathy and general haematology.
  • Contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings and departmental educational activities.
  • Developing procedural and diagnostic skills, including opportunities to participate in bone marrow harvest procedures and laboratory-based learning.
  • Supporting clinical audit, quality improvement and governance activities.
  • Teaching and supporting undergraduate medical students and junior doctors.
  • Participating in the middle-grade on-call rota, including evenings, nights and weekends.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
