🚀 ML/AI Research Engineer — High-Pay | Majority Remote | Outside IR35 Contract
I’m currently working on an exciting opportunity for an ML/AI Research Engineer to join an advanced engineering technology company developing a new AI platform for engineering simulation.
This is genuine R&D, not a standard ML implementation role.
The team is developing AI methods that can dramatically accelerate physics-based engineering simulations — replacing computationally expensive numerical simulations with fast learned models.
🔬 What you’ll be doing
You’ll be working at the intersection of AI, deep learning and engineering simulation, including:
- Designing and building neural network architectures from scratch
- Developing and training models using PyTorch
- Working with large-scale synthetic datasets
- Training models on GPU/HPC infrastructure
- Running experiments, ablation studies and hyperparameter optimisation
- Benchmarking model generalisation and accuracy
- Working with engineering/physical measurement data
- Contributing to research papers, patents and future R&D funding

🧠 What we're looking for
We’re interested in strong ML/AI engineers and researchers with experience in:
- Python + PyTorch
- Deep learning / neural networks
- Research-oriented ML or advanced model development
- GPU-based model training
- Scientific computing, simulation, mathematics or engineering
Experience with any of the following would be particularly relevant:
- Neural Operators
- FNO
- DeepONet
- PINNs
- PDEs
- Scientific ML
- Computational Physics
- Surrogate Modelling
- Differentiable Simulation
- Geometric Deep Learning
- Equivariant Networks
However, you don't need to have experience with all of these. If you're a strong ML engineer with a research mindset and enjoy solving difficult technical problems, I'd be very interested in hearing from you.

💰 Contract
- High-paying Outside IR35 contract
📍 South London — hybrid / predominantly remote for the right person
⏱ 6-month initial contract with strong potential for extension/permanent position
🖥 Dedicated GPU compute including A100/H100 infrastructure
🔬 Genuine opportunity to work on novel AI research and engineering applications
