Senior Machine Learning Scientist

London (Remote First) | £90,000 - £95,000 + Equity + Benefits

The Role

As a Senior Machine Learning Scientist, you will play a key role in developing and improving advanced NLP and LLM-based systems across the full machine learning lifecycle.

You will:

  • Develop, evaluate, and optimise custom NLP and LLM solutions for real-world applications.
  • Design and run end-to-end experiments to benchmark and improve model performance.
  • Work across information extraction, semantic search, retrieval, re-ranking, classification, and sentiment analysis.
  • Fine-tune language models and contribute to the evolution of model training pipelines.
  • Build and improve GenAI features and agentic AI systems.
  • Develop robust evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic AI systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to bring research into production.
  • Translate business challenges into scalable Machine Learning solutions.
  • Influence technical direction through experimentation, research, and innovation.

Your Skills & Experience

You will have:

  • Strong commercial experience in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Large Language Models.
  • Deep understanding of transformer architectures and modern NLP techniques.
  • Hands-on experience fine-tuning and evaluating language models.
  • Strong Python and PyTorch capabilities.
  • Experience working with large-scale, messy, unstructured text datasets.
  • Knowledge of embeddings, retrieval systems, re-rankers, clustering, classification, and search.
  • Experience building GenAI applications and agentic AI workflows.
  • Strong understanding of experimentation, evaluation methodologies, and model performance measurement.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • A strong Computer Science or related technical background, with postgraduate study viewed favourably.
