Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mainframe Automation Engineer to join our global team responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise monitoring and automation solutions across the IBM z/OS platform.
This team is responsible for defining and executing the automation strategy for critical mainframe services, ensuring their availability, recoverability, security, and operational efficiency. The role requires deep technical expertise in Mainframe Automation technologies, particularly Broadcom OPS/MVS, along with a broad understanding of IBM Z infrastructure.
As a Mainframe Automation SME, you will work closely with infrastructure, application, and operations teams globally to design, develop, and implement automation solutions that improve operational effectiveness and reduce manual intervention. You will also provide production support, incident resolution, and technical leadership for automation-related initiatives.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver, excellent communicator, and technical expert capable of independently delivering enterprise-class automation solutions for complex mainframe environments.
In this role, You will
- Administer, maintain, and support enterprise Mainframe Automation solutions.
- Design, develop, and implement monitoring and automation processes across IBM z/OS environments.
- Create, modify, test, and deploy automation rules, policies, and event management solutions.
- Manage requests for new automation requirements and enhancements from business and technology teams.
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand operational requirements and translate them into effective automation solutions.
- Ensure automation solutions adhere to enterprise standards, governance requirements, and best practices.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for automation-related incidents and production issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative measures to minimize operational risks.
- Develop and maintain REXX-based automation scripts and utilities.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to enhance operational efficiency through intelligent automation.
- Participate in strategic projects involving automation modernization and service improvements.
- Monitor system health and automation effectiveness across multiple environments.
- Support incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and automation standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational excellence and reduced manual intervention.

Required Qualifications
- Typically 8 to 15+ years of experience in IBM Mainframe environments.
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe Automation and Monitoring solutions.
- Strong experience with automation products such as Broadcom OPS/MVS, IBM System Automation (SA z/OS), and/or NetView.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale production environments with high availability and operational resilience requirements.
- Proven expertise in automation design, implementation, troubleshooting, and monitoring across IBM z/OS platforms.
- Strong REXX programming and automation scripting experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Broadcom OPS/MVS
- IBM System Automation (SA z/OS)
- IBM NetView
- IBM z/OS Environment
- Expertise in designing and implementing Mainframe Automation solutions.
- Strong programming and scripting experience using:
- REXX
- CLIST (preferred)
- Experience supporting enterprise production environments and critical business applications.
- Strong understanding of:
- Incident Management
- Problem Management
- Change Management
- IT Service Management (ITSM)
- Proven troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills in IBM Z environments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with globally distributed teams.

Desired Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Broadcom OPS/MVS automation architecture and advanced rule development.
- Experience implementing event-driven automation and self-healing processes.
- Knowledge of:
- JES2/JES3
- CICS
- DB2
- MQ
- z/OS System Programming
- USS (UNIX System Services)
- RACF
- Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability solutions.
- Familiarity with automation governance, compliance, and audit requirements.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and automation lifecycle management.
- Experience working in Banking, Financial Services, or other highly regulated environments.
- IBM or Broadcom product certifications are desirable.
