The Business
An established, family-owned business is looking for an experienced Finance Manager / Senior Management Accountant to join the team and play a key role in strengthening its internal finance capability.
The business provides design, installation and ongoing maintenance services within a specialist workplace environment and has built a strong reputation in its market.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being close to the numbers but is also ready to take on broader responsibility and gain greater exposure to the wider running of a finance function.
You will work closely with the Managing Director and an experienced fractional Finance Director, who will provide senior-level support, guidance and mentoring.
You will share responsibility for the finance function with the fractional Finance Director, taking the lead on the day-to-day financial reporting and management accounting while working together to strengthen processes, controls and reporting.
This could be an ideal next step for an experienced Management Accountant or Senior Management Accountant looking to move into their first Finance Manager role, or an existing hands-on Finance Manager who enjoys working within an SME environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director and working closely with the fractional Finance Director, you will take the lead on the day-to-day financial reporting and management accounting requirements of the business.
You will be responsible for:
- Producing the monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow reporting
- Managing the key month-end processes, including reconciliations, accruals, prepayments and journals
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow planning alongside the fractional Finance Director
- Producing useful commercial reporting around revenue, costs, margins and profitability
- Keeping oversight of working capital, including debtors and creditors
- Coordinating routine finance requirements such as VAT, payroll information and year-end support
- Working with the fractional Finance Director to strengthen finance processes, controls and reporting
- Providing clear and timely financial information to the Managing Director

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You will not be expected to manage everything alone. The fractional Finance Director will remain closely involved, providing senior-level support and helping shape the wider finance framework.
As you become established in the role, there will be scope to take on greater responsibility and wider commercial exposure.
About You
We are looking for someone who is comfortable getting into the detail but is also ready to broaden their finance experience.
You do not need to have previously run an entire finance function.
This role could be a great next step for an experienced Management Accountant or Senior Management Accountant who wants to move towards a Finance Manager role with the support of an experienced Finance Director.
You will ideally bring:
- Strong management accounts and month-end experience
- A good understanding of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
- Some experience of budgeting and forecasting
- A practical understanding of financial controls
- Confidence working independently while knowing when to draw on support
- The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
- A hands-on, collaborative approach
Experience within an SME, owner-managed or family-owned business would be particularly useful.
You may be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.
Experience within a project-led, service, facilities, workplace, interiors, installation or maintenance environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
What's on Offer
- £50,000–£55,000 salary
- Performance-related bonus
- Hybrid working
- Direct exposure to the Managing Director
- Close support and mentoring from an experienced fractional Finance Director
- The opportunity to take genuine responsibility without being expected to manage the finance function alone
- Broader exposure than a traditional Management Accountant role
- A clear opportunity to develop into a well-rounded Finance Manager
- The chance to help shape and improve the finance function within an established business
