We have an exciting opportunity available for a motivated and experienced Senior Management Accountant to join our Finance Business Partnering Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full-time, permanent basis.
As a key part of the Finance Business Partnering Team, this role will provide support on all financial matters, including timely and high-quality financial advice to a range of budget managers.
Working closely with service managers and senior leaders, you will play a key role in ensuring strong financial management, robust governance, and effective use of resources. You will provide expert financial support, challenge and insight to help services deliver their priorities while meeting the financial challenges facing local government.

Key Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Lead and support budget monitoring, forecasting and financial planning activities.
- Provide timely, accurate and insightful financial information to managers and senior stakeholders.
- Support the development of Medium-Term Financial Plans, annual budgets and statutory finance returns.
- Build strong relationships with budget holders and service managers, acting as a trusted financial advisor.
- Manage and develop Management Accountants and other team members, providing coaching and guidance.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, service delivery and value for money.
- Support transformation programmes and service improvement initiatives
- Contribute to the production of statutory accounts and year-end processes.

Skills, Attributes & Experience Required
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional expertise.
- Qualified accountant or actively studying towards a recognised professional qualification such as CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
- Strong financial management and budgeting experience.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and operational data.
- Advanced IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality customer-focused services.
