Responsibilities
The Senior Management Accountant is responsible for overseeing a team of management accountants in providing consistent, effective and accurate financial management reporting, supporting financial planning, providing financial analysis and advice to stakeholders to inform business decisions. Activities delivered by the team will include:
- Financial management processes – deliver accurate budgets, forecasts and month-end reporting to agreed timelines.
- Financial reporting – provide clear, timely and transparent financial information to support decision-making.
- Financial analysis & insight – analyse financial performance, explain variances, and identify and challenge risks, issues and opportunities.
- Stakeholder management – build and maintain strong relationships to ensure stakeholders understand financial position and implications.

You must be aged 16 or over at the point of starting in this role. The expected start date is approximately 8–12 weeks after the application closing date. Candidates are expected to commence employment as soon as possible following the expiry of their notice period. Requests for significantly later start dates may not be accommodated.
You must complete and pass your Civil Service tests by 14 August 2026 at 23:55 to be able to complete an application for this role.
As part of this role, you are expected to undertake direct line management responsibilities.
Job Description
Your roles and responsibilities:
- Lead, develop and support a team of Management Accountants, providing direction, coaching and oversight to ensure high-quality outputs, continuous professional development, and consistent application of financial policies and processes.
- Drive consistency and standardisation across financial management activities, ensuring robust controls, accurate financial data, compliant month-end processes, and a uniform approach to budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
- Oversee the production of accurate financial reporting, forecasts and management information, delivering timely insights and clear financial narratives that support effective decision-making by senior leaders, consolidating reports where appropriate.
- Provide expert financial analysis, challenge and advice, identifying risks, issues and opportunities, supporting business case development, and helping stakeholders optimise the allocation of resources.
- Build strong relationships with budget holders and stakeholders, promoting collaboration, clear communication and a shared understanding of financial performance, priorities and expectations across the organisation.

Person specification
To Be Eligible To Apply, You Need To
- Demonstrate experience in financial management, reporting and analysis.
- Show the ability to interpret financial information and provide clear, insight-led commentary.
- Have strong attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and quality.
- Evidence the ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate with stakeholders.
- Demonstrate an understanding of financial controls, governance, and assurance processes.
- Level 4 AAT qualified with a willingness to work towards a Level 7 (CCAB or CIMA) qualification within 6 months.
Qualifications
AAT Level 4 qualified, willing to work towards a CCAB qualification within 6 months
