Your new role

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Management Accountant to join our UK finance team. To take a hands-on role in the preparation, analysis and reporting of financial information for the UK business. The Senior Management Accountant will be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of monthly management accounts, supporting the month-end close process, analysing financial performance and providing meaningful financial information to management and budget holders. The role will work closely with the Finance team and operational departments, providing financial insight and supporting the business in understanding performance, costs and variances.

The position requires a strong technical accounting foundation, attention to detail and the ability to work independently in a manufacturing environment.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Take a hands-on role in the preparation and production of the monthly Management Accounts in accordance with the corporate timetable.
  • Analyse monthly P&L and Balance Sheet results against budget, forecast and prior year, identifying significant variances and preparing clear supporting commentary.
  • Manage the month-end accounting process, including preparation and posting of general ledger journals in SAP and accurate preparation of accruals, prepayments and major accounting estimates.
  • Ensure that monthly sales reporting reconciles to the Profit and Loss statement and prepare other monthly financial reports required by Group Finance.
  • Prepare and maintain monthly reconciliations of assigned Balance Sheet accounts, ensuring that reconciling items are investigated and cleared in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain supporting schedules and documentation for key Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Support daily and monthly cash-flow reporting by coordinating relevant information from Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and relevant budget owner.
  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, preparing financial information and analysis for the relevant areas of the business.
  • Monitor CAPEX expenditure against approved budgets and prepare regular capital expenditure reports, including expenditure.
  • Assist budget holders in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for their areas of responsibility.
  • Work closely with budget holders to understand their cost base, investigate variances and provide relevant financial analysis to support decision making.
  • Liaise with the Supply Chain team regarding goods receipting, purchase orders and invoicing issues and support the timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Support the preparation of insurance-related financial information and other finance reporting requirements as required.
  • Support finance systems and process improvements, including SAP and Excel-based reporting.
  • Perform other ad hoc finance and accounting activities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Accounting qualifications or 10 plus years of accounting experience in a financial role.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting systems is required; SAP being currently used. An aptitude for IT with intermediate to advance excel skills would be favourable.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a finance or accounting role, with proven experience in management reporting and month-end accounting.
  • Experience in preparing monthly management accounts, analysing financial performance and explaining variances.
  • Proven experience working with and communicating effectively with both Finance and non-Finance stakeholders
