Senior Management Accountant – Logistics Business – West Midlands

We’re working with a growing logistics business in the West Midlands who are looking to appoint a qualified Senior Management Accountant/Finance Manager into their finance team.

The business is continuing to grow and invest across its operations, with finance playing an increasingly important role in supporting commercial and operational decision-making.

This is a broad Management Accountant role, working closely with the Financial Controller and partnering with stakeholders across the wider business. You’ll have ownership of the management accounts while also providing analysis and insight around profitability, costs and business performance.

The role

  • Ownership of the monthly management accounts, including P&L and balance sheet
  • Preparation of journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supporting month-end and year-end close processes
  • Supporting the budgeting, forecasting and cash flow processes
  • Providing detailed profitability analysis across customers, operations and business units
  • Analysing transport, warehouse and operational costs and highlighting trends and opportunities
  • Producing meaningful KPI and financial reporting for senior stakeholders
  • Business partnering with operational, commercial and senior management teams
  • Supporting pricing reviews, tenders and commercial modelling
  • Providing financial insight to help improve operational performance and profitability
  • Assisting with stock and inventory reporting
  • Supporting year-end accounts and external audit
  • Improving financial reporting, controls and processes across the finance function
  • Identifying opportunities to automate and streamline reporting
  • Supporting wider finance projects and business improvement initiatives

About you

We’re looking for a fully qualified accountant who is commercially minded and enjoys getting under the skin of a business.

You’ll ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification
  • Strong experience producing and owning monthly management accounts
  • A strong technical accounting background, including balance sheet reconciliations and month-end
  • Excellent Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets
  • Experience working with an ERP system – Dynamics 365 experience would be advantageous
  • Strong commercial and analytical skills, with the ability to understand what is driving performance
  • Experience business partnering with operational and non-finance stakeholders
  • The confidence to challenge numbers and provide insight rather than simply report them
  • A proactive approach to improving processes, reporting and controls
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels
  • Experience within logistics, transport, warehousing, distribution or supply chain would be useful, but isn't essential.

This is a broad and commercially focused role within a growing business, offering the opportunity to have real influence beyond the finance function.

You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across the operation, helping the business understand its performance, improve profitability and make better commercial decisions.
