Senior Management Accountant - Record to Report (R2R)
Manchester | Hybrid - three days onsite
12-month FTC with a view to becoming permanent
A large, fast-growing professional services organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Management Accountant to lead the operational delivery of its Record to Report function.
Reporting to the Head of R2R, you will act as their number two and manage a team of eight finance professionals. This role specifically requires someone with previous experience working within a Record to Report function or Shared Service Centre environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, coach and manage a team of management and assistant accountants.
- Take ownership of R2R delivery across month-end, quarter-end and year-end.
- Review journals, balance-sheet reconciliations and accounting schedules.
- Investigate the volume and timing of journals affecting the close timetable.
- Improve the efficiency and control of the month-end close.
- Maintain general-ledger integrity across a complex, multi-entity organisation.
- Oversee intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
- Deliver accurate management accounts, variance analysis and commentary.
- Manage team performance, workloads, development and engagement.
- Reduce key-person dependency through improved documentation and accountability.
- Identify opportunities for automation, standardisation and process improvement.
- Support finance transformation and system-development initiatives.
- Provide recommendations to the Head of R2R and senior stakeholders.

Essential experience
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA
- Previous experience within an R2R function or finance Shared Service Centre is essential.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end Record to Report processes.
- Proven experience managing a multi-level finance team.
- Experience within a complex, multi-entity organisation.
- Strong technical accounting, Excel and ERP-system knowledge.
- Able to investigate processes, challenge existing practices and implement improvements.
- Hands-on, operational and comfortable working through periods of change.

- Practice-trained background.
- Professional services or legal-sector experience.
- Finance transformation or continuous-improvement experience.
- Experience within a large organisation with turnover exceeding £250 million.
