Job Profile Summary

The main purpose of the role is responsibility for the financial control and reporting of a number of legal entities which perform various functions within Man Group. This involves oversight and review of monthly management reporting, annual statutory accounts production and iXBRL-tagging, reporting to entity Boards and various regulators, and continual evaluation and improvement of financial controls and processes within the broader team. The role also includes responsibility for the provision of technical support, day-to-day direction and leadership to a small team and to the wider legal entity accounting team, and assistance with ad-hoc projects as required. Additionally, the role provides support to the Workday & Commercial Management team in the execution of their duties across the Finance function and should develop in-depth understanding of the business, its environment and products.

Responsibilities

Financial control and reporting

  • Review the monthly management accounts for a variety of legal entities, ensuring that the general ledger is accurate and complete, and that all analytical reviews and balance sheet reconciliations have been completed and review points are addressed
  • Review local GAAP statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant GAAP and regulatory requirements
  • Review iXBRL-tagging of statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with the relevant taxonomies
  • Liaise with the Group’s auditors, ensuring the delivery of relevant information to support the Group and subsidiary audits
  • Review VAT returns, liaising with the Tax team to ensure training requirements around the recording of VAT are met
  • Support the preparation of corporation tax returns, liaising with external tax advisors as required
  • Review regulatory returns for entities regulated in a variety of jurisdictions
  • Review projected FX exposure, advising Treasury of FX contracts needed to hedge all foreign currency monetary assets and liabilities on a monthly basis
  • Review Board reporting, liaising with subsidiary directors as required
  • Ongoing liaison with other teams within Finance, including Treasury, Tax, Group Reporting and Operations to ensure support and delivery of information to and from them in a timely, accurate and efficient manner

Team management

  • Provide communication, support, coaching and mentoring to direct reports and to the wider team
  • Support the UK Legal Entity Controller in planning and structuring the team’s work schedule and resourcing requirements

Other

  • Involvement in ad-hoc projects and trouble-shooting issues, including assistance with the interpretation of relevant technical issues, and ad-hoc projects in areas which influence the financial accounting operations, as required
  • Represent the team in department-wide projects and initiatives
  • Take a proactive role in questioning processes in place with a view to continuous improvement
  • Member of the Client Assets Operational Oversight Committee; review and preparation of client money documentation; maintain up to date knowledge of client asset regulations and rules
  • Support other Financial Control and Reporting initiatives as required

Key Skills & Experience

  • Accounting: ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification. Good knowledge of financial accounting, including technical accounting (to include IFRS) – minimum 2-3 years’ PQE
  • Financial Controls: Understanding of controls, with an ability to critically evaluate them within a larger organisation
  • Regulatory: Experience or knowledge of FCA or similar regulatory rules and the asset management industry would be advantageous
  • IT Skills: Must be computer literate with strong excel skills and have the ability to learn new systems. Experience with general ledger systems would be advantageous
  • Risk Awareness: Ability to understand financial risk and use it to influence decisions and critically appraise processes
  • Interpersonal: Communication, organisation, and presentation skills together with the ability to confidently deal with multiple stakeholders
  • Analytical, logical thinker with high attention to detail
