- Insightful, value-add analysis and governance: Translate stress testing and capital outputs into clear, decision-useful insight, incorporate regulatory change, identifying portfolio vulnerabilities and key risk concentrations to inform strategy, dividend generation capacity, pricing under stress and risk appetite. Produce concise, well-evidenced packs and governance papers, and present key messages, drivers and recommended actions at relevant HSBC UK forums.
- Regulatory engagement: Own the risk ownership of STDF actuals and annual returns submission to the PRA and manage associated queries, Dear CFO letters and Harmony escalations.
- Risk Management: Continually reassess the operational risks, own the RCAs, compliance with BCBS, Helios controls and responsible for HSBC UK Control framework.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Build and maintain strong, proactive relationships across Treasury, Risk, Finance, Group and the UK business to align expectations, inputs and timelines, and to resolve issues quickly. Remain flexible to support the wider capital agenda, contributing to related deliverables and ad hoc analysis as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
