Overview

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Manager - Data to lead the development and delivery of our enterprise data strategy. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role will be responsible for establishing data as a strategic asset across the organisation, driving data-led decision making, improving operational effectiveness and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

As the senior leader accountable for enterprise data management, you will oversee data governance, data architecture, data quality, analytics, regulatory reporting, data warehousing and business intelligence capabilities. Working closely with executive, business and technology stakeholders, you will shape a data-driven culture and ensure maximum value is realised from the organisation's data assets.

Based in Guernsey or Jersey, this role offers the opportunity to influence strategic business outcomes while supporting technology, digital and data transformation initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

Data Strategy & Delivery

  • Define, maintain and deliver a data strategy and roadmap aligned to business priorities and corporate objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage data, analytics and automation to improve customer outcomes and business performance.
  • Lead the development of enterprise data capabilities that support current and future organisational requirements.
  • Champion data-driven decision making across the business.

Data Governance & Quality

  • Establish and maintain an enterprise-wide data governance framework, including policies, standards, ownership and accountability.
  • Lead the Data Governance Committee and embed effective data stewardship across the business.
  • Drive improvements in data quality, controls and master data management.
  • Ensure data is accurate, complete, timely and fit for purpose.

Data Platforms & Business Intelligence

  • Oversee data warehouse, ETL, reporting and visualisation capabilities.
  • Ensure data platforms remain secure, resilient and scalable.
  • Develop management information, analytics and business intelligence capabilities.
  • Promote self-service reporting while maintaining appropriate governance.

Regulatory Reporting & Compliance

  • Ensure regulatory data is managed and reported accurately and in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Support audit, risk and compliance reviews relating to data governance and management.
  • Provide assurance to senior leadership, committees and regulators regarding data controls.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable data protection legislation and industry standards.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Data function.
  • Build effective relationships with executive and senior stakeholders.
  • Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Manage key third-party suppliers and partners supporting data services.

Strategic Contribution

  • Support the CIO in shaping and delivering the Technology, Digital and Data strategy.
  • Contribute to digital transformation, automation and AI initiatives.
  • Drive data transformation programmes and support delivery of wider technology objectives.

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in a senior Data leadership role within a complex and regulated environment, ideally within financial services.
  • Extensive experience delivering data strategy, governance, analytics and enterprise data management initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of modern technology environments, including cloud platforms and service management.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance strategic planning with operational delivery.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing and communication skills.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and working with C-suite stakeholders.
  • Experience managing third-party technology suppliers and partners.
  • A track record of driving improvements in data quality, governance and regulatory reporting.

Desirable

  • DAMA Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
  • TOGAF Foundation or equivalent architecture certification.
  • COBIT Foundation qualification.
  • Risk Management or Operational Risk qualifications.
  • PRINCE2, AgilePM or equivalent project management certification.
  • Financial services, banking or building society sector experience.

  • Continuous improvement in the quality of critical business and regulatory data.
  • Timely and accurate submission of regulatory returns.
  • Measurable business benefits delivered through data, analytics and automation.
