The Enterprise Technology Services organization partners with every part of the American Express business to power the company’s growth and innovation with trust and efficiency, and drive competitive differentiation with speed. We support the delivery and operations of technology, digital, and data capabilities, platforms, and services globally. Specifically, our team is responsible for the company’s technology engineering, architecture, and infrastructure, providing 24x7 support to ensure an uninterrupted, high-quality experience for customers and colleagues. We also provide product management for core enterprise platforms, and lead technology risk and information security, enterprise data governance and platforms, digital product and design, and enterprise AI platforms on behalf of the company.
This role sits within the Enterprise Platforms & Technology Business Enablement Cross Platform Delivery Team and is responsible for leading end-to-end delivery of large, complex technology initiatives that span multiple platforms, teams, and business domains. The Delivery Manager will operate in close collaboration with engineering, product, architecture, NPD, and business stakeholders, driving alignment, clarity, and execution across a highly dynamic environment.
A key focus of the role is enabling successful delivery of technology modernization and migration initiatives, requiring strong technical acumen, disciplined program management practices, and the ability to anticipate and mitigate risks across interconnected systems and dependencies. The role demands exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills to translate complex technical efforts into clear business outcomes and ensure alignment at all levels of the organization.
This individual will leverage structured delivery practices, including detailed project planning, RAID management, and data-driven reporting, alongside agile methodologies to ensure predictable, high-quality outcomes and continuous value delivery.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead end-to-end delivery of large, complex technology initiatives across multiple platforms, teams, and business domains, ensuring alignment to strategic objectives and business outcomes
- Collaborate and co-create across a broad set of stakeholders including engineering, product, architecture, business leaders, portfolio teams, NPD, and external partners, drive alignment, resolve conflicts, and influence decision-making in a fast-paced environment
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, integrated release plans, and delivery artifacts, track progress using data-driven insights and tooling (e.g., JIRA, Rally) to ensure predictable execution
- Proactively manage and track risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies (RAID), with clear ownership, mitigation strategies, and transparent reporting to senior leadership
- Drive cross-platform dependency management and integrated release planning to ensure seamless coordination across teams, trains, and external partners
- Lead or support large-scale technology modernization and migration initiatives (e.g., platform transformations, legacy system decommissioning), managing risks related to system dependencies, data integrity, and business continuity
- Partner closely with Product, NPD, Architects, and Engineering teams to ensure alignment on strategy, roadmap, and execution, and to enable high-quality solution delivery
- Engage in solution discussions to bridge gaps between business, product, and engineering teams and ensure robust, scalable outcomes
- Establish and track program-level metrics and KPIs. Generate data-driven insights to monitor delivery health, identify risks, and drive continuous improvement
- Manage impediments and escalations, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact to delivery timelines and quality
- Drive end-to-end test management and readiness, including coordination of test planning, execution, and status reporting
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across teams; support adoption of best practices, tools, and innovative delivery approaches
- Manage external relationships where applicable, including technology vendors and partners, ensuring alignment and delivery commitments are met
- Provide clear, concise, and tailored status reporting at multiple levels (team, program, and executive), highlighting key risks, dependencies, progress against milestones, and actionable insights to support decision-making

QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of experience in Technology Program/Project Management, with a proven track record of delivering large, complex, cross-functional technology initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to operate in highly matrixed environments, collaborating with and influencing a wide range of stakeholders including engineering, product, architecture, business leaders, and external partners
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, concise, and insight-driven reporting to senior and executive stakeholders
- Strong hands-on experience with structured delivery practices, including detailed project planning, RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) management, and data-driven status reporting
- Proven experience delivering technology modernization or migration initiatives (e.g., platform transformations, cloud migrations, legacy system decommissioning), with an understanding of associated risks and dependencies
- Solid technical acumen with the ability to understand system architecture, engage in solution discussions, and effectively partner with engineering teams
- Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum, SAFe, or similar), including facilitating key ceremonies and managing cross-team dependencies
- Proficiency with project and agile delivery tools such as JIRA, Rally, and Confluence
- Experience leveraging data, automation, or AI-enabled tools to enhance reporting, delivery tracking, and decision-making
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and drive outcomes in fast-paced environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
