Senior Manager – Design, Maintenance, Modifications and Manufacturing Engineering

We are seeking a Senior Manager – Design, Maintenance, Modifications and Manufacturing Engineering. In this pivotal leadership role, you will head an engineering team supporting customer Part M requirements and directly enabling Part 145 delivery across customer, BDUK, and supplier activities. Reporting directly to the Engineering Director, you will drive operational excellence and technical governance.
BDUK is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 2,000 people in the UK. BDUK is responsible for delivering several exciting contracts to our UK defence customers including E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, Through Life Support for the Chinook & Apache Fleets, Logistic Information Services and Training Services.
The successful candidate will lead the BDUK Design Center as well as the Production Engineering team. In this role the candidate will continue the growth and development of the Design Center to deliver current and future design engineering requirements across the broad BDUK design and operations portfolio. Additionally they will own the execution and delivery of Production Engineering across the current and future platforms. Production Engineering includes the following activities, Material Review Board (MRB), Manufacturing Planning and Manufacturing Engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the execution and delivery of work scope to programmes and for business growth
- Focal for delivery of GeoDiversity projects for non-BDUK entities
- Management of resource demand and supply, including recruitment of new staff when required
- Reporting of performance into Functional management meetings
- People management, including performance enablement and talent management
- Promote technical excellence in the department through use of Design Practices and Technical Design Reviews
- Coach team members to develop their careers through the structure of Technical Lead Engineers and Boeing Designated Experts to membership of the Technical Fellowship
- Conduct networking activities with the wider Boeing Enterprise to ensure functional development
- Further evolution of the requirements and definition of the department in the context of the Engineering Function and the evolving BDUK organisation, including development of an appropriate culture aligned to the Enterprise values
- Yearly forecasting of the departmental budget and management and review of financial performance
- Management of department, function and programme Risk, Issues and Opportunities
- Development and execution of a departmental operational strategy and roll out of engineering initiatives, aligned to the Function and Business Unit strategies
- Member of Engineering LT
- Manage employees and first-level managers performing activities within multiple Engineering disciplines

Basic Qualifications and Experience:
- Engineering degree typically acquired through an accredited course of study
- Knowledge of Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles (RAs), specifically RA4800 series
- Prior Engineering leadership
- The ability to obtain UK Security Clearance
Preferred Skills:
- Strategic thinker, who is comfortable starting with a “clean sheet of paper”, and able to “Create what isn’t, rather than manage what is”
- Commitment to International collaboration, and the desire to build a Global Engineering solution
- Understand the Processes and Procedures to define and grow an Engineering Design Organisation to support the immediate and future needs of the BDUK business
- Able to think beyond the current Design capabilities in support of the BDUK strategic roadmap to optimise BDUK’s position in the market
- A solid understanding of the Engineering Design and Material Review Board process
- A solid understanding of Financial and Budgetary management to support both internal and external business cases
- Strong reporting and communication skills, with the ability to “tell-the-story” in a simple manner through data and analytics, and able to “cut through the noise”
