JOB DESCRIPTION
About the Role
We are seeking an accomplished energy economist to join Deloitte’s Economic Advisory (EA) team as a Senior Manager, with a focus on energy-transition investment decisions, energy markets and modelling. The analysis and insights produced by the Energy Economics practice within EA are central to Deloitte’s work on clients’ most complex decisions across Energy, Resources & Industrials (ER&I) and infrastructure investment. EA sits within the Infrastructure & Real Estate (I&RE) practice, and the team supports strategy, finance and transaction engagements across Deloitte’s broader ER&I practice. You will help clients navigate the transition to net zero, major infrastructure investment decisions and rapidly evolving energy markets.
We combine rigorous economics and sector expertise with the scale of Deloitte’s wider capabilities. As we continue to expand our energy offering, we are building the Energy Economics practice for the future by developing our existing tools and intellectual property into AI-enabled energy data, models, investment platforms and digital tools. You will have the opportunity to shape distinctive propositions and deliver integrated advice to Deloitte’s clients, including strategic insight, financial advice, transaction support, and policy and regulatory advice. You will draw on expertise from across our UK and global network to support the energy transition.
Responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary energy engagements from scoping through to delivery, particularly where energy system, market, economic or financial modelling is central to the analysis, ensuring analytical robustness and clear client outcomes
- Act as a trusted day-to-day adviser to senior client stakeholders, explaining complex economic and regulatory issues clearly and constructively
- Shape and assure analytical approaches, models, assumptions and outputs, including where evidence is incomplete or uncertain
- Translate energy-market, investment, policy and regulatory developments into practical advice for clients
- Originate and convert opportunities by building relationships, developing propositions, leading proposals and contributing to account plans
- Manage engagement economics, resourcing, risk and governance, escalating issues appropriately and maintaining a strong focus on delivery
- Lead, coach and develop diverse teams, providing clear direction, timely feedback and opportunities for colleagues to grow
- Collaborate across Economic Advisory and the wider Deloitte firm to assemble multidisciplinary teams and deliver integrated solutions
- Develop the team’s energy data, modelling and digital-platform capabilities, including propositions, reusable tools, quality standards and routes to market, while contributing to thought leadership, recruitment, learning and the wider management of the practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Strong knowledge of energy markets and the transition to net zero, ideally spanning investment drivers, market design, infrastructure, low-carbon technologies or regulatory frameworks
- A strong grounding in microeconomics and the ability to apply economic concepts to practical policy, regulatory and commercial questions
- Experience leading substantial projects or workstreams, managing teams, budgets, risks, dependencies and senior stakeholders
- The ability to structure ambiguous problems, make proportionate judgements and communicate a clear, evidence-based point of view
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including experience producing concise reports, board-ready materials and persuasive proposals
- A track record of building trusted relationships and contributing to business development, account growth or proposition development
- A collaborative leadership style, with a commitment to inclusion, coaching and the development of others.
