At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits. This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it.

What if your expertise could protect lives and help save them? Every day at Bristol Myers Squibb, scientists and researchers are working to discover treatments that transform patients' lives. But none of that groundbreaking work happens without people like you - the ones who make sure every colleague goes home safe, every lab operates responsibly, and every environmental commitment is more than just a promise on paper.

This is your opportunity to be that person. And to do it at one of the world's leading biopharma companies.

So, what will you actually be doing? You'll be a genuine force for change across our Northwest UK sites in Moreton and Chester - two dynamic locations at the heart of BMS's R&D and commercial operations. You won't be buried in paperwork for the sake of it. You'll be shaping the safety culture, driving environmental progress, and making a visible, measurable difference.

Here's what that looks like day to day:

  • Getting close to the science - You'll work directly alongside our Lab Services and Research teams, helping design and implement projects with EHS at their core. You'll understand the work, not just audit it from a distance.
  • Leading real environmental progress - You'll actively seek out new waste service providers, move the sites up the waste hierarchy, and improve recycling outcomes. This isn't box-ticking; it's genuine environmental stewardship you can point to and be proud of.
  • Owning Industrial Hygiene - As a recognised expert, you'll develop and manage IH monitoring plans, conduct qualitative and quantitative assessments, and write reports that directly shape how safely people work with hazardous materials.
  • Driving safety investments - You'll build and champion Capital Expenditure proposals for EHS improvements, working with vendors and procurement to turn safety ideas into funded, delivered projects. Your recommendations will be taken seriously and acted upon.
  • Making compliance meaningful - From COSHH assessments and risk assessments to wastewater consents and contractor safety programmes, you'll translate regulatory requirements into practical, people-first safe systems of work.
  • Mentoring the next generation - You'll coach new site safety representatives, shape training content, and help build a team that's stronger because of your influence.
  • Communicating EHS across the business - Using digital media tools to drive engagement, you'll make EHS visible and relevant to everyone on site - not just the people who seek it out.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What's in it for you? Let's be honest - you could find an EHS role anywhere. So here's why this one is different:

  • You'll have scope and autonomy. This isn't a role where you inherit a static programme and maintain the status quo. You'll be shaping how EHS evolves across two sites, with the freedom to identify gaps, propose solutions, and see them through.
  • Your voice carries weight. At BMS, EHS isn't an afterthought — it's integral to how we operate. You'll have a seat at the table with lab leadership, facilities, procurement, and research teams. When you speak, people listen.
  • You'll grow, professionally and personally. With access to BMS's Global EOHSS Standards, world-class systems like Enablon, and a collaborative international network, you'll be continuously learning and expanding your expertise in ways that build your long-term career capital.
  • You'll be part of something that matters. The products developed and manufactured at these sites reach patients around the world. Your work creates the safe foundation that makes all of that possible. That's a legacy worth having.

You'll thrive here if you bring:

  • A degree in Safety, Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field, and 5+ years of industry experience that has genuinely tested you
  • 3+ years of hands-on Industrial Hygiene experience, backed by recognised qualifications (e.g., British Occupational Hygiene Society)
  • A solid, working knowledge of UK HSE legislation - HASAWA, COSHH, Working at Height, LOTO, and beyond
  • Real experience with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management and the UK regulatory landscape that goes with it
  • The ability to run audits, manage CAPEX projects, and navigate contractor control on a secure pharmaceutical site
  • Strong communication skills that work just as well in a technical report as they do when you're on the shop floor coaching a safety rep
  • The kind of natural curiosity and organisational ability that means you're always one step ahead - even when the unexpected lands on your desk
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, SuccessFactors, and Enablon will set you up for success from day one.

Ready to make your mark? If you're an EHS professional who wants to do more than maintain the status quo - someone who wants to build something, influence something, and protect something genuinely important - we'd love to hear from you.
