Senior Manager – Employment Tax
Department: Employment Tax
Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Location: City, London
Reporting To: Directors and Partners
Compensation: £78,000 - £91,000 / year
Description
We are looking to appoint an Employment Tax specialist at Senior Manager or Director level to join our growing Employer Services team. The final level and scope of the appointment will reflect the successful candidate’s experience, leadership capability, and track record of contributing to business growth.
You will manage a varied portfolio of clients across a broad range of industries, providing practical and commercially focused advice on complex employment tax and compliance matters. The role sits within a wider, integrated Employer Services offering. Working closely with colleagues across payroll, HR, immigration, and global mobility, you will help clients navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment and deliver joined-up advice across the employee lifecycle.
This is a highly client-facing position that requires strong technical knowledge, commercial judgement, and the ability to explain complex tax legislation clearly to non-specialists. You will lead and develop junior colleagues, manage senior client relationships, identify opportunities, and work alongside our Partners to support the continued growth of the Employment Tax service line.
For an appointment at Director level, the role will also include greater responsibility for strategic leadership, business development, market profile, and the commercial performance of the service line.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide practical, commercially focused advice across a broad range of employment tax matters, including employment status, PAYE, National Insurance, benefits, CIS, and National Minimum Wage.
- Lead PAYE health checks and support clients with HMRC enquiries, reviews, and disclosures.
- Advise on P11Ds, PAYE Settlement Agreements, and the transition to payrolling benefits in kind.
- Work with our international network on cross-border employment tax and globally mobile employee matters, where required.
- Manage the delivery of client work, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, budgets, and billing requirements are met.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, Partners, and colleagues across the firm.
- Provide technical guidance to the firm’s payroll specialists and wider Employer Services teams.
- Lead, support, and develop junior colleagues, including reviewing their work and providing technical coaching.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and introduce relevant services from across the firm.
- Contribute to pitches, proposals, presentations, and other business development activity.
- Support the Partner and Directors in developing the Employment Tax service line, improving efficiency, and winning new work.
- For a Director-level appointment, take greater responsibility for strategic growth, senior client relationships, market profile, and business development.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
