The Opportunity

EY Tax is a market-leading practice, trusted by some of the world's most recognisable businesses to help them navigate complexity, manage risk, and unlock opportunity. As our UK business continues to grow, we're looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Employment Tax Senior Manager to join either our London, Birmingham or Leeds Employment Tax and Equity team and play a key role in driving the future success of our practice.

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a high-profile leadership role where you'll work alongside senior business leaders, Partners, and clients on some of the most complex and rewarding employment tax challenges in the market. You'll help organisations respond to an increasingly evolving workforce landscape, advising on everything from workforce compliance and employment status to global mobility, payroll, reward, and governance matters.

More than just a technical specialist, you'll be a trusted advisor, relationship builder, mentor, and business developer. You'll have the platform to grow client relationships, win new work, develop future talent, and make a tangible impact on the direction of our business.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead high-profile client engagements - Work with leading UK and multinational organisations, providing strategic employment tax advice and helping clients manage complex people, payroll, and compliance challenges.
  • Drive business growth - Play a key role in building the market presence of EY's Employment Tax practice through client relationship development, business development activities, proposals, and presentations.
  • Influence senior stakeholders - Build trusted relationships with senior client contacts and act as a strategic advisor on matters that impact workforce strategy, risk, governance, and business performance.
  • Deliver exceptional technical expertise - Lead the successful delivery of complex consulting and compliance projects, ensuring technical excellence combined with practical, commercial solutions.
  • Shape the future of our practice - Identify emerging trends, market opportunities, and innovative solutions that help clients navigate the changing world of work.
  • Develop the next generation of talent - Coach, mentor, and inspire junior team members, helping them grow their technical expertise, confidence, and career aspirations.
  • Collaborate across EY's global network - Work alongside specialists in global mobility, reward, payroll, People Advisory Services, and international tax to deliver integrated solutions for some of EY's most important clients.

About you

  • Experience of employment tax gained in consultancy, legal firm and/or large global corporate
  • Have strong personal impact and resilience, and be able to influence and persuade clients and stakeholders at all levels to gain support for major changes and key decisions
  • Working and technical understanding of key employment tax issues including:
    • Expenses and Benefits (PSAs and P11Ds)
    • Employment Status (IR35 and self-employed)
    • Payroll (PAYE, RTI, apprenticeship levy, audits)
    • Construction Industry Scheme
    • Termination Payments
    • Pensions
    • National Minimum Wage
    • Dealing with HMRC, audits, disclosure
    • SAO and CCO
    • Understanding of equity plans (basic understanding)
  • Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work
  • Proven track record in project management and delivery
  • Change orientated with flexible approach
  • Be professional, quickly establishing personal credibility and demonstrating expertise.
  • Take a practical approach to solving issues and gaining client agreement
  • Be able to analyse complex problems and to deliver insightful, practical, and sustainable solutions
  • Focus on achieving project / programme goals and objectives
  • High-quality deliverables including clear and concise technical guidance
  • Be adept at overcoming issues and barriers
  • Identify and discuss opportunities to delegate work to less experienced team members and facilitate learning
  • Be skilled in facilitating and encouraging collaboration amongst team members, and capable of motivating teams to maximise performance
  • Provide timely, authentic, and constructive feedback to colleagues and seek feedback in return.
  • Ideally have the ATT and/or CTA qualifications.
