Senior Manager - IFRS 9 Accounting and Controls
We're currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager - IFRS 9 Accounting and Controls.
You’ll step into a high-profile Senior Manager role within HSBC UK Finance where you own and shape IFRS 9 reporting and controls for the HSBC UK balance sheet, giving you real scale, complexity and visibility to senior leadership. You’ll act as the go-to SME across Finance, build strong engagement with Risk and external assurance, leading review and challenge of key disclosures and regulatory outputs (IFRS/FINREP, Encumbrance, PRA108), running robust analysis on Expected Credit Loss (ECL) and impairment engine data, and driving remediation where issues surface. You’ll also influence change through automation and data quality initiatives, operate key SOX controls, and work with significant autonomy so you can build a broad skillset spanning technical IFRS application, stakeholder management, control discipline and transformation, with the role expected to evolve beyond IFRS 9 into wider operational accounting responsibilities.

In This Role You'll
- Deliver ongoing IFRS 9 reporting for the HSBC UK balance sheet, including review/challenge of reporting solutions and supporting a streamlined reporting process
- Perform monthly ECL pack reviews: reasonableness checks, variance analysis, and ensuring clear commentary on key drivers; advise and respond to stakeholder queries
- Provide technical review of key outputs (IFRS & FINREP credit disclosures, Encumbrance, PRA108) and perform quarterly supplementary reporting reviews
- Run data quality and remediation activities: validate impairment engine outputs, analyse complex datasets, review significant Stage 3 movements, and support automation projects and data-quality fixes
- Own and operate controls (including SOX controls, reconciliations, and control remediations) and help embed/improve the IFRS 9 reporting control framework and annual IFRS9 C&M control activity
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Demonstrable experience working within a Bank
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with experience applying technical accounting within a controlled financial reporting environment
- Strong IFRS 9 experience
- Regulatory and financial reporting experience, including experience interpreting requirements such as FINREP and PRA returns
- Controls and governance experience, operating within a control framework, including running SOX controls
- Advanced analytical and data remediation experience
- Experience of building, influencing, and maintaining strong relationships with senior stakeholders
