Senior Internal Communications Manager
Contract type: 6-month fixed term contract (covering secondment)
Full time: 34.5 hours, we are open to a conversation about how you work these hours
Location: Hybrid between home and our London, Glasgow or Shipley office – typically once a month in office
Salary range: £53,500 - £59,500

About the role
In this role, you’ll work closely with senior leaders and directorates to drive colleague engagement, shape internal communications, and support effective organisational change. Acting as a trusted adviser, you’ll provide expert communications counsel, develop impactful engagement strategies, and help bring Macmillan’s work and culture to life for colleagues across the organisation.
Based on the fixed-term nature of this contract, we are only able to consider candidates who can join immediately.
Key responsibilities:
- Partner with Executive team members and senior leaders, providing expert advice, coaching and support on internal communications and engagement.
- Lead strategic communications planning, delivery and evaluation across directorates.
- Support and drive Macmillan’s approach to change communications, ensuring colleagues are informed, engaged and supported through change.
- Develop and share compelling stories and content that showcase Macmillan’s impact and priorities.
- Build strong relationships across the organisation, aligning communications activity and identifying opportunities for collaboration.
- Provide strategic communications consultancy, including support on reputation management, emerging issues and organisational risks.
- Lead and coordinate communications activity across multiple teams and channels to ensure a consistent colleague experience.
- Manage, coach and develop team members and matrix teams, creating an inclusive, high-performing environment where people can thrive.

About you
You’ll be a highly credible communications professional with significant experience operating at a senior level and influencing leaders across a complex organisation. You’ll combine strategic thinking with excellent relationship-building skills and a passion for engaging colleagues through effective communication.
You will have:
- Significant experience in a senior communications role.
- Experience acting as a trusted adviser and critical friend to senior leaders.
- Experience of strategic communications planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Experience managing reputation, issues and crisis communications.
- Excellent writing and content development skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
- Outstanding stakeholder management, influencing and relationship-building skills.
- People management experience, including leading matrix teams.
- The ability to navigate complexity, manage competing priorities and secure buy-in from senior decision-makers.
- A collaborative and inclusive leadership style, with a commitment to developing others and delivering high-quality work.
