Job Description:

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Senior Manager, Trade Controls, located in Ireland, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland.

The Senior Manager will shape and drive global trade compliance capabilities that enable business growth, supply continuity, and regulatory confidence. The role plays a critical part in designing future-state trade controls operating models, embedding scalable processes, and leading transformational initiatives that support Global Supply Chain operations worldwide. This is an opportunity to influence how trade compliance is integrated into strategic supply chain decision-making across regions and markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the global trade controls strategy for DePuy Synthes Supply Chain, ensuring alignment with enterprise supply chain and business transformation objectives.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve trade compliance operating models, processes, and governance across regions.
  • Provide strategic oversight and subject-matter leadership for import/export controls, customs compliance, free trade agreements, and tariff mitigation initiatives.
  • Partner with Global Supply Chain, Legal, Tax, Quality, and Regional teams to embed trade controls into supply chain design, network optimization, and transformation programs.
  • Lead complex, cross-functional strategy and transformation initiatives to enhance compliance, efficiency, and scalability of trade processes.
  • Establish performance metrics, risk indicators, and reporting to monitor compliance effectiveness and operational impact.
  • Guide and mentor team members and extended stakeholders, fostering a strong culture of compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support regulatory change management by assessing impacts, defining response strategies, and ensuring timely, compliant implementation.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on trade risk, mitigation strategies, and supply chain implications of global trade policies.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Business Administration, Law, or a related field
  • Preferred: Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) or advanced degree in a related discipline

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • Typically 8-10 years of progressive experience in trade compliance, global supply chain leadership, or related functions, with demonstrated
  • Strong knowledge of global trade regulations, customs compliance, and import/export controls
  • 5 years of hands-on SAP GTS experience working directly within SAP GTS managing Sanctioned Party List, legal regulations, export licenses, and block resolution
  • Experience leading global, cross-functional initiatives in a complex, matrixed organization
  • Proven ability to translate regulatory requirements into scalable business processes and operating models
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and driving change in a global environment
  • Ability to manage risk while enabling business agility and growth

Preferred:

  • Experience within medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or other highly regulated industries
  • Background in strategy, transformation, or operating model design within Supply Chain
  • Experience with customs brokerage systems, data analytics tools, PowerBI, and intermediate Excel skills (pivot table, Vlookup, Xlookup, graphs)
  • Experience supporting mergers, separations, or major organizational transformations
  • Demonstrated people leadership or matrix team leadership experience
  • Exposure to free trade agreements, tariff mitigation strategies, and global customs programs
  • Continuous improvement or transformation methodology experience (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and executive communication skills

Other:

  • Language: English required; additional languages preferred
  • Travel: Limited; up to ~20% international and domestic travel
