Senior Managing Editor
About Transworld
Home to bestselling and award-winning authors across fiction and non-fiction, Transworld publishes an incredibly varied range of books – from the biggest commercial brands, including Dan Brown and Lee Child, and landmark, conversation-starting non-fiction such as Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Roberts Giuffre, to literary bestsellers and exciting new voices such as Lost Lambs by Madeline Cash.
The role
As Senior Managing Editor, you’ll join an experienced Managing Editorial team and manage fiction and non-fiction titles from manuscript through to final files, including high-profile authors and complex non-fiction projects.
Alongside managing your own titles, you’ll provide editorial expertise and support across the department, deputising for the Managing Editorial Director when required. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute ideas about how the team’s systems, processes and ways of working can continue to develop.
Key responsibilities:
- Manage fiction and non-fiction titles from manuscript to final files, working closely with authors, editors, designers, freelancers and Production colleagues.
- Deputise for the Managing Editorial Director when required and help handle complex editorial matters.
- Ensure copy-editing and proofreading are carried out to a consistently high standard.
- Help develop and improve departmental and group progress-monitoring systems.
- Assist with the appointing, management and support of freelance copy-editors and proofreaders.
- Help maintain and update house styles and editorial guidelines.
- Contribute to weekly progress and production meetings and proofread marketing and publicity materials as required.
- Share your experience and expertise with colleagues, including supporting less experienced members of the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
