Senior Manufacturing Project Engineer

Location: Great Yarmouth

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Team Leader, Production Engineering

Role Overview

As an Engineering Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating Manufacturing Engineering projects from concept through to implementation. You will act as the focal point for project planning, execution, stakeholder management, and delivery, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet business objectives.

Working closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management, and Design Engineering teams, you will drive the successful execution of continuous improvement, New Product Introduction (NPI), industrialisation, capacity improvement, yield improvement, equipment, and strategic manufacturing projects.

This role requires strong organisation, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Lead Manufacturing Engineering projects from initiation through to completion
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, risks, and resource requirements
  • Define project objectives, deliverables, milestones, and success criteria
  • Coordinate project activities across multiple functions and departments
  • Ensure projects remain on track and proactively manage risks, issues, and dependencies
  • Escalate project concerns and recovery plans where required

Manufacturing Engineering Support

  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers to support project execution and prioritisation
  • Coordinate activities relating to process improvements, capacity increases, yield improvements, and cost reduction initiatives
  • Support industrialisation activities for new and existing products
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are completed to support project milestones

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Manage Manufacturing Engineering activities associated with product introduction
  • Coordinate build plans, manufacturing readiness reviews, and production trials
  • Ensure manufacturing documentation, tooling, process development, and training requirements are completed before production release
  • Support successful transition from development into production

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders
  • Facilitate project meetings, status reviews, and steering meetings
  • Communicate project progress, risks, actions, and decisions clearly to all levels of the organisation
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement projects across Manufacturing Engineering and Production
  • Monitor project performance against agreed KPIs
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, throughput, and delivery performance
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives

Reporting & Governance

  • Maintain project dashboards, action logs, RAID logs, and status reports
  • Produce regular project updates for senior leadership
  • Ensure compliance with company project management processes and procedures
  • Support business case development and project justification activities

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications:

Essential

  • Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, or a related discipline

Desirable

  • Project Management qualification (APM, PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent)

Essential

  • Knowledge & Experience
    • Experience managing engineering, manufacturing, operational, or technical projects
    • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams
    • Strong planning and organisational skills
    • Experience managing project schedules, risks, actions, and deliverables
    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
    • Competent in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously

Desirable

  • Experience within manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, defence, or high-reliability industries
  • Understanding of Manufacturing Engineering processes
  • Exposure to New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement techniques
  • Experience using project planning software such as Microsoft Project, Jira, Smartsheet, or similar
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
