Are you a marine or coastal scientist with a few years’ experience who is ready to take the next step into a Senior Consultant role? Do you have a genuine interest in oceanography, coastal erosion and the physical processes that shape our marine environment? Are you looking for the opportunity to work on major offshore wind, subsea cable and marine infrastructure projects while developing your consultancy and technical leadership skills?

This is a great opportunity to join APEM’s growing Marine Physical Processes team and build on your existing experience in a role with plenty of scope to develop. You’ll work across hydrodynamics, morphology, sediment transport and coastal processes, helping clients understand how marine infrastructure interacts with the physical environment.

You’ll contribute to interesting marine projects, including offshore wind and subsea cable developments, analysing oceanographic and physical data and providing technical input into EIAs and other environmental assessments. As you develop, you’ll have increasing opportunities to lead workstreams, contribute to client and stakeholder discussions and become a trusted technical adviser.

This is particularly suited to someone who is ready to step up. You’ll have support from experienced team of marine environmental professionals, while also getting the opportunity to mentor more junior consultants and take increasing ownership of your work. With the right development, there is a clear pathway towards leading physical processes workstreams on major renewable energy projects in the UK and internationally.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
