About the Role
Our Team is looking for a Senior Underwriter with recognised experience and a successful track record in underwriting Large and Medium Sized Corporates. As a Senior Marine Underwriter, you will play an instrumental role shaping our Marine & Energy underwriting portfolio and will be a key contributor in driving our strategy. Experience with underwriting Composite placements is a plus. Your responsibilities will include:
- Analysing and assessing submissions in respect of exposures and coverages as well as identifying and negotiating the best position for Swiss Re
- Underwrite treaty reinsurance business for the various Marine classes including Cargo, Hull, Liability, Energy and PVT, including preparing quotations, offering proposals, wordings and clauses.
- Developing strategies to expand our position on current accounts and to cross-sell other lines of business.
- Support LoB Head with portfolio strategy and initiatives
- Share technical subject matter underwriting expertise with underwriters. Provide regular trainings on overarching topics and LoB governance specific topics

- Minimum 7–10 years relevant experience within the insurance and/or reinsurance industry, gained in underwriting, broking, or related market-facing roles. Experience leading placements, negotiations, and client relationships is highly desirable
- Strong background in building broker and client relationships.
- Proficiency in the use of underwriting tools and ability to interpret and judge the results
- Ability to handle multiple deals in parallel without losing oversight
- Strong Commercial mindset combined with technical expertise.
- Excellent Communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Good level of energy and pro-active behaviour
About the Team
Our Global Specialty team consists of problem solvers driven by passion, powered by knowledge - and all of this with a good pinch of fun. With over 200 underwriters across 10+ offices, the team combines SR's dedicated Specialty lines of business in Reinsurance: We are Agriculture, Aviation, Credit & Surety, Cyber, Engineering and Marine & Energy.
The base salary range for this position is between £106,000 and £158,000 (for a
full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:
- the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,
- the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.
