Market Risk Analyst - LNG Desk
My client in the energy trading space is currently looking for a Market Risk Analyst on their LNG desk.
You are expected to operate independently, constructively challenge the front office, and handle the high operational complexity unique to physical and financial LNG portfolios.
Core Responsibilities
- Daily Exposure & P&L Attribution: Produce and analyse daily risk P&L, breaking down results by specific trading strategies and risk drivers, including commodity market moves, FX, interest rates, and option Greeks.
- LNG Portfolio Risk Monitoring: Manage exposures across complex FOB/DES physical contracts, global pipeline hubs, and index spreads. You will track hedging activities, position limits, and risk-limit utilisation.
- Cross-Commodity Risk Support: LNG trading does not happen in a vacuum. You will monitor and support risk management for cross-commodity positions, including freight, bunker fuel, and emissions.
- Curve Validation & Methodology: Independently validate forward curves and portfolio valuations for accurate mark-to-market (MtM) and fair value reporting.
- Advanced Risk Analytics: Develop and enhance Value-at-Risk (VaR) frameworks, liquidity stress-testing, and bespoke scenario analyses (e.g., vessel delays, liquefaction outages).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
