Our Team

The Eversheds Sutherland Business Development and Marketing team is a collaborative, international, and client-focused group that values innovation and commercial thinking. We work closely with partners and fee earners to support the firm’s global growth strategy, with sectors at the heart of our approach. Our priority sectors include, Energy, Financial Services, Health & Lifesciences, Consumer, Industrials, Government & Infrastructure, and Technology Media & Telecoms.

This role focuses on the Consumer Sector with a key focus on Sector Strategy & Client Development. It’s a dynamic and evolving market, offering a great opportunity to contribute to the firm’s strategic growth in this sector.

Role Overview

This is a senior, global-facing role within the Consumer sector team, combining strategic marketing leadership with hands-on client development.

Key Responsibilities

Sector Strategy & Market Positioning

  • Take a leading role in identifying client and market trends and how our advice and market positioning can be advanced, in response, to support our aim of being a global leader in this field
  • Work with the Sector Group Leader (SGL) and lead partners on structuring our service offering, products and marketing activities to engage clients globally, securing new mandates and developing existing client relationships
  • Be a subject matter expert on the global capabilities of the firm within the sector, proactively engaging with key partners and associates across our international jurisdictions to support their practices
  • Deliver a clearly thought-through, actionable client & market plan. Enabling the sector to work with our wider practice, sector and in-country teams, to draw-in relevant insight and content (litigation, employment, regulatory, finance, M&A, etc.) ensuring consistency of message, approach and success of the sector in growth areas

Client Development

  • Lead on a select number of key client relationships with the key client programme and identify opportunities for growth and retention.
  • Lead on the development of the client pipeline and engagement activities, including making go/no-go decisions and providing strategic input on pitches alongside the Pitch Team.
  • Support the globalization of the client base through cross-selling initiatives and gap analysis.

Campaigns & Content

  • Design and deliver integrated campaigns that target priority clients and market segments.
  • Work with the wider marketing team to ensure campaigns are globally relevant, measurable, and aligned with sector goals.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with the SGL and sub-sector leads to deliver the sector’s three-year growth strategy.
  • Build strong relationships with partners, fee earners, and international colleagues to ensure buy-in and collaboration.

Team Leadership

  • Line manage a marketing manager and executive

Skills & Experience

We are looking for a senior Marketing & Business Development professional with a proven track record in a professional services environment. You will bring strong commercial awareness, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead strategic marketing and business development initiatives that drive growth.

Key Attributes

  • Significant experience in business development and marketing, ideally within professional services.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results.
  • Commercially astute, with an understanding of how legal services support clients across industrial sectors.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage senior stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership experience, including line management, objective setting, coaching and developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience collaborating with senior stakeholders across multiple offices and locations.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively.
  • Experience working within an international or global business environment is highly desirable.
