A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Materials Planner to join our client's Planning team in Bristol on a 6-month fixed-term contract.
Working closely with Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Stores, Build, and Test, you will manage material availability, resolve shortages, and support the smooth flow of work throughout the manufacturing process.
This is a highly collaborative role within a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment. You will help deliver the master production schedule, maintain accurate planning data, and identify risks that could affect production, customer delivery, or revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise, maintain, and release work orders in line with the production plan and relevant approval processes.
- Manage work-order part lists throughout the build and test process.
- Work closely with Stores and kitting teams to ensure materials are available in line with build schedules.
- Monitor material availability and resolve shortages in collaboration with Production, Purchasing, and other operational teams.
- Review and action MRP messages, including work-order amendments and cancellations.
- Support engineering changes, concessions, and deviation permits affecting active builds.
- Investigate and control requests for additional materials before adding requirements to work orders.
- Maintain accurate planning information within ERP, MRP, and other relevant business systems.
- Interpret production schedules and translate them into clear material requirements and actions.
- Identify and communicate risks that could affect production schedules, customer delivery, or revenue.
- Support the successful execution of the master production schedule.
- Act as a key point of contact for planning enquiries from Build and Test teams.
- Attend production, planning, and gateway review meetings.
- Support the creation and continuous improvement of planning processes and procedures.
- Deputise for the Planning Team Leader when required.
- Support wider Supply Chain and operational teams in maintaining the effective flow of materials through the business.

Essential Requirements
- Substantial experience in materials planning, production planning, or manufacturing planning.
- Strong knowledge of MRP-based planning and scheduling.
- Experience working within a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
- Practical experience managing work orders, material requirements, and production shortages.
- The ability to interpret production schedules and convert them into clear material actions.
- Experience using ERP, MRP, or other manufacturing business systems.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise multiple activities.
- Confident communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- A proactive and practical approach to problem-solving.
- The ability to identify delivery risks and escalate issues appropriately.
- A collaborative, dependable, and adaptable approach to work.
- Good general IT skills.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a lean manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of lean principles as applied to materials planning and management.
- Experience using JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, or a comparable ERP or MRP system.
- Experience managing engineering changes, concessions, or deviation processes.
- Previous experience supporting or deputising for a team leader.
- An IOM, ONC, HNC, or equivalent professional or technical qualification.
