We're looking for a Senior Materials Testing Technician to lead a team of technicians based out of Tarmac Clitheroe Asphalt Plant, Lancashire. You'll be at the heart of quality assurance, overseeing the testing and analysis of aggregates and asphalt materials that help shape the roads, infrastructure and communities we all rely on.
This is far more than a laboratory role. It's a hands-on position where you'll be out on site, solving problems, leading testing activities, influencing quality standards and helping deliver materials that keep our North West region moving.

What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Materials Testing Technician, you'll be responsible for leading and supporting a team of Materials Testing Technicians ensuring our products consistently meet the highest quality standards. This is a practical, site-based role combining laboratory testing, on-site sampling and close collaboration with operational teams.
You will also be responsible for:
- Carrying out and overseeing aggregate and asphalt testing in line with BS EN Standards and accreditations
- Ensuring accurate, timely testing that supports operational excellence
- Promoting a strong Health, Safety and Environmental culture
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and business optimisation
- Working closely with operational teams across multiple sites
- Helping drive Tarmac's commitment to a zero-harm workplace

What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from individuals who are practical, detail-oriented and who enjoy leading a technical team. The ideal candidate will have laboratory experience gained within quality control, construction materials, aggregates or asphalt sector.
You will thrive in this role if you:
- Understand aggregate and asphalt testing processes (desirable but not essential)
- Are a strong communicator who can build relationships across teams
- Have excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach
- Enjoy problem-solving and working both independently and collaboratively
- Are comfortable using IT systems and handling calculations
- Are flexible and willing to travel between sites when required
- Put safety at the heart of everything you do
This isn't a traditional white-coat laboratory role. You'll spend time both in the laboratory and out on site, wearing PPE, working alongside operational teams and playing a key role in maintaining and ensuring product quality across our operations.
Full UK manual driving licence (with no more than 6 penalty points) is required as a company van is provided with this role.
Location: Based at Clitheroe Asphalt Plant in Lancashire, this role is easily accessible from Accrington, Blackburn, Preston, Blackpool, Lancaster, Morecambe, Burnley and the surrounding areas.
