Role & Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design & EDS Engineer to take technical ownership of the mechanical design, packaging and integration of electrical distribution systems, controls hardware and associated components from concept through to production-intent release.
This hands-on role combining strong mechanical design, CAD and drawing capability with specialist experience in EDS routing and electrical hardware integration.
Reporting to the Head of Mechanical, Design, Analysis and Integration and working closely with Systems Engineering, CAE, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement and suppliers, you will help deliver robust, manufacturable, serviceable and validated engineering solutions while balancing product performance, quality, cost, mass, technical risk and programme timing.
Responsibilities include:
- Take technical ownership of EDS and controls integration work packages from concept through verification and production release.
- Develop mechanical concepts, 3D CAD, EDS routing, assemblies and production-intent engineering drawings.
- Develop packaging solutions for harnesses, cables, connectors, sensors, actuators, control modules and associated hardware.
- Define appropriate mounting, clipping, retention, strain-relief and protection strategies, considering vibration, abrasion, thermal exposure, ingress, corrosion, assembly and serviceability.
- Work across Electrical, EDS, Controls, Systems, CAE and Validation to manage physical interfaces, technical risks and design dependencies.
- Lead or support design and packaging reviews, DFMEA, technical risk assessment and verification activities.
- Support prototype and production-intent builds, suppliers and structured investigation of EDS and controls integration issues.
- Ensure CAD, routing definition, drawings, BOMs and engineering data are accurate, configuration controlled and suitable for release.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
