Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Cambridge
Working pattern: Hybrid
Package: Competitive Salary + benefits
Arca Consulting is partnering with a highly specialist engineering business that designs and manufactures advanced mechanical machinery used in some of the world's most challenging environments.
This is not your typical mechanical design role.
You'll be working on robust, highly engineered machines designed to operate in demanding conditions, with projects that can ultimately have a real-world impact on the safe recovery of land and communities around the world.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Developing detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
- Taking designs from concept through to production.
- Applying engineering calculations, tolerancing, and FEA where appropriate.
- Selecting suitable materials and manufacturing processes.
- Supporting prototyping, testing, and design validation.
- Ensuring designs meet relevant standards, legislation, and safety requirements.
- Working closely with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and suppliers.
- Resolving technical and manufacturing issues and driving design improvements.
- Supporting cost reduction, value engineering, and continuous improvement.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to less-experienced engineers.

About You
We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with:
- Strong 3D CAD experience and a background in detailed mechanical design.
- Proven experience designing products for manufacture.
- Good knowledge of materials, machining, fabrication, welding, and finishing.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, tolerancing, and fits.
- Experience with engineering analysis/FEA.
- The ability to investigate problems and develop practical, robust solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- A proactive, commercially aware, and continuous-improvement mindset.
- An engineering degree or equivalent qualification/experience.
