Overview

My client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dynamic and growing building services team in Newark-on-Trent. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to take on a senior role, contributing to a variety of live and technically challenging projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical building services design, with proficiency in Revit being essential. Experience with IES and MagiCAD, as well as knowledge of heat pumps and low-carbon heating solutions, would be highly advantageous.

Day-to-Day

Your day-to-day activities will involve:

  • Developing mechanical building services designs using Revit
  • Working across heating, ventilation, cooling and domestic services
  • Supporting projects through design, construction and commissioning
  • Conducting thermal modelling and environmental assessments
  • Reviewing designs, specifications and technical documentation
  • Liaising with clients, consultants, contractors and project teams
  • Supporting the development of low-carbon design solutions

Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering innovative and practical mechanical design solutions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Produce detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs across RIBA stages
  • Undertake Dynamic Thermal Simulations, overheating assessments and Part L calculations
  • Develop and review heat pump and low-carbon heating solutions
  • Review designs produced by internal teams, consultants and contractors
  • Provide technical support throughout construction and commissioning
  • Prepare technical submissions, specifications and design documentation
  • Ensure designs meet relevant regulations, standards and project requirements

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in mechanical building services design
  • Strong knowledge of heating, ventilation, cooling and domestic services
  • Proficiency in Revit - essential
  • Experience delivering designs on live projects
  • Good understanding of relevant building regulations and standards
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • IES experience - highly advantageous
  • MagiCAD experience - beneficial, with training available
  • Experience with heat pumps / low-carbon technologies - desirable
