Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Due to sustained growth, a significant forward order workload and a continued commitment to be at the forefront of the industry, our client is now searching for a talented and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of innovative, creative and winning design packages in line with client key drivers, and project programs and budgets. Additionally, you will take accountability directing and supporting other Design Engineers.

Applications are invited from individuals possessing in-depth experience within the heavy metal or fabrication, structural steelwork sector from a similar industry to our client, such as HVAC or Oil & Gas etc.

The Role

  • To design a wide range of bespoke products, systems, and solutions ensuring compliance with client specifications, legislative requirements, and HSEQ standards.
  • To work independently as a senior member of a team to develop new or existing solutions that meet the mechanical technical requirements of form, fit, and function.
  • To provide a professional mechanical engineering design service to the business and so interface with customers and suppliers to ensure activities are completed to meet or improve program, cost, and quality expectations.
  • Work with the wider team to help develop customers' requirements and understand their potential implications to the business.
  • Develop concept solutions and support discussions to compare and contrast different options.
  • Seek input from manufacturing department, supply chain contacts, and project teams.
  • Further develop selected concepts in sufficient detail to enable production of definition drawings.
  • Action risks and opportunities as the design develops so they can be understood by the wider team.
  • Prepare engineering calculations in support of detail design schemes.
  • Present designs at review meetings as required.
  • Participate in research and development activities.
  • Carry out and take responsibility for site survey activities on an occasional basis.
  • Use industry standard software packages effectively in the course of your design activities.
  • Generate concise and presentable sketches and reports for issue to a range of customers.
  • Interpret and implement engineering drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Manage project timescales and achieve or improve deadlines.
  • Provide progress status reports to line management on a regular basis and work to achieve or improve company and customer objectives of program, cost, and quality.
  • Responsible to the Design Manager for all aspects of the mechanical design and integrity of the company's range of products.
  • To lead by example on the mechanical discipline and operate to the highest engineering professional code of conduct.

The Person

  • The successful candidate will possess a mechanical engineering degree and demonstrable experience in a similar role.
  • Possess the ability to deliver real working solutions which balance the requirements of functionality, design integrity, manufacturability, serviceability, and costs.
  • Ability to create and understand technical designs to satisfy customer requirements.
  • Proficiency in standard industry design packages.
  • A focus on building and maintaining client and supplier relationships.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills to support project and company goals.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and delivering to challenging timescales.
  • Possess a full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
