The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team delivering innovative mechanical design solutions to the aerospace, defence and space industries.
Working across a variety of challenging projects, you will be responsible for the development of mechanical structures from concept through to detailed design and manufacture. This role offers the opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary environment where design, analysis and additive manufacturing are combined to deliver high-performance engineered solutions.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading projects, interfacing with customers, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions within a highly regulated industry.

Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed mechanical design data including 3D models, 2D drawings, schematics and Bills of Materials.
- Produce supporting design documentation including FMEAs, user manuals, CE marking documentation, technical investigations, reports and design reviews.
- Represent the design function during customer design review meetings.
- Apply Design for Manufacture and Design for Additive Manufacture principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Incorporate Poka-Yoke, ergonomics, aesthetics and Human Machine Interface principles into designs where applicable.
- Review and check engineering design data to ensure compliance with quality and technical standards.
- Support project planning, quotations, customer engagement and project management activities.
- Assist in the mentoring and development of junior engineering team members.
- Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative engineering solutions.
About You
- Must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
- Degree qualified (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or working experience within a Mechanical Design role.
- Experience leading engineering projects.
- Strong capability in 3D CAD design and creation of complete engineering design packages.
- Experience producing technical documentation and supporting engineering reports.
- Knowledge of metallic and non-metallic material properties.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with the confidence to work independently.
- High attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality engineering solutions.
- Experience within the aerospace, defence or space sectors.
- Experience using CATIA and associated PLM systems.
