Principal / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Rosyth, Fife | £Excellent + benefits

Could you be trusted to give the final technical approval on a complex mechanical design? We’re recruiting a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to act as a technical authority and design-sign-off engineer within an experienced mechanical engineering team.

You’ll review and approve engineering work, challenge weak assumptions and take responsibility for deciding whether designs are safe, properly substantiated and ready for release.

This isn’t primarily a CAD position. It requires strong mechanical fundamentals, credible calculation skills and the confidence to make and defend important design decisions.

The role

  • Act as a technical authority for mechanical design.
  • Review, challenge and approve designs produced by other engineers.
  • Take responsibility for design sign-off and technical approval.
  • Complete and review stress, bending, shear, fatigue and mechanical-integrity calculations.
  • Produce clear design substantiation.
  • Lead design reviews and make product-safety decisions.
  • Support new products from concept through manufacture, testing and release.
  • Mentor engineers and help strengthen engineering standards.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
