Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Cardiff | £50,000 | Permanent, full-time | On-site
Vargo is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for an established engineering manufacturer. This is a hands-on design and product-development role, reporting to the Engineering Manager - not a people-management or strategic leadership position.
The Role
- Develop mechanical designs for new products and customer-specific engineering solutions.
- Produce and develop designs, engineering calculations, specifications and technical drawings.
- Take concepts through feasibility, prototyping, testing and product validation.
- Investigate technical problems and improve existing products and designs.
- Work closely with manufacturing, quality and other engineering colleagues to deliver practical, robust solutions.
- Maintain clear technical documentation and support engineering change control.

About You
- You will bring strong mechanical design and product-development experience, with the technical depth to take ownership of detailed engineering work.
- Experience in an engineering manufacturing environment and a practical understanding of how designs are built, tested and improved will be particularly relevant.
- A mechanical engineering, product-design or related qualification is useful. The emphasis is on proven hands-on capability, technical problem-solving and delivery rather than team leadership.
