Role and Responsibilities
Location: East Midlands - Commutable from Derby, Leicester, and Nottingham
Salary: Up to £45k, negotiable depending on experience, plus benefits
Our client, a leading provider of bespoke automation and robotic systems with almost half a century of expertise, is seeking an experienced Lead / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their successful team. The role involves delivering innovative special purpose automation machinery projects.
Role: Based near Leicester, you will be tasked with designing and overseeing special purpose machine projects from order acceptance to customer hand over. Your responsibilities will include:
- Design, detailing, and successful delivery of multiple projects.
- Effective communication with customers, suppliers, and team members.
- Mechanical design and detailing functions using 3D CAD within project timelines.
- Arranging Design Reviews to ensure designs meet overall requirements and budgetary constraints.
- Obtaining a Design Pass Off by the customer on time and to project plan.
- Producing BOMs on time and within budget.
- Negotiating with external suppliers for cost-efficient materials.
- Assisting the electrical design process by communicating clearly and effectively.
- Compiling a build folder and communicating build details to machine tool fitters.
- Providing direction and support to fitters, electricians, and other engineers.
- Undertaking visits to customer sites to understand requirements and obtain measurements.
- Assessing and improving design concepts to reduce risks, costs, and lead times.
- Conducting project reviews with customers and maintaining a comprehensive Technical Construction File (TCF).
- Carrying out machine risk assessments to ensure Machinery Directive requirements are met.
- Leading projects during development and installation phases with proactive delivery of problem fixes.

- Experience in mechanical design and project management.
