Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
London | Hybrid | Full-time | Permanent
Are you an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer looking for a role where you can take ownership of an established product portfolio while also getting involved in new product development?
We’re working with an established engineering business specialising in mechanical and electromechanical products for safety-critical environments, who are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their London-based engineering team.
This is a hands-on opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to work across product design, sustaining engineering, validation, technical problem solving and continuous improvement.
The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll take technical ownership across an established product portfolio, supporting product improvements, engineering changes, corrective actions and selected new product development projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing concepts, prototypes and detailed mechanical/electromechanical designs.
- Creating and reviewing 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs and specifications.
- Carrying out engineering calculations, analysis and testing.
- Supporting product validation, verification and design reviews.
- Driving improvements to product performance, quality, cost and manufacturability.
- Providing technical support and problem solving across engineering and manufacturing.
- Producing engineering reports, calculations and technical documentation.
- Supporting compliance, product change and lifecycle activities.
- Acting as a technical point of contact for product and engineering queries.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.

What We’re Looking For
You’ll ideally have:
- A degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related discipline.
- Proven experience with mechanical or electromechanical products.
- Strong knowledge of materials, mechanisms, tolerancing and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with engineering calculations, technical documentation and product validation.
- Strong 3D CAD skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical ability.
- The confidence to take ownership and work across multidisciplinary teams.

Experience within safety-critical, industrial or regulated environments would be advantageous, as would knowledge of product compliance, risk assessment or verification/validation.
