Salary: Up to £53,000 per annum

Bonus: Up to 8%

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, days

Holiday: 25 days + bank holidays

Holiday increase: Up to 28 days after 5 years' service

Hawk 3 Talent Solutions are working with a successful and growing specialist engineering business in York to recruit a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a newly created position.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly and highly skilled Engineering team within a growing specialist manufacturing business.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the full engineering lifecycle, taking projects from initial concept and design through to development, testing and final production.

You'll be responsible for developing robust mechanical solutions that meet customer requirements, quality standards, cost targets, safety requirements and performance specifications.

The Role Will Involve

  • Designing mechanical components, assemblies and modular systems using SolidWorks / 3D CAD
  • Taking ownership of designs from concept, modelling and development through to testing and commissioning
  • Producing detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Selecting appropriate materials and considering tolerances, thermal performance, fatigue, vibration and shock
  • Supporting prototype builds, testing and product improvements
  • Investigating technical issues and developing practical engineering solutions
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and technical functions
  • Contributing to design reviews and technical discussions
  • Managing several projects and ensuring work is delivered on time and to specification
  • Researching technical topics and producing reports and recommendations
  • Supporting and mentoring other members of the engineering team where required

Requirements

We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys hands-on engineering, technical problem solving and seeing designs develop into finished products.

Qualifications:

  • HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering

Skills:

  • Strong SolidWorks / 3D CAD experience
  • Good knowledge of advanced mechanical design principles
  • Experience taking projects from concept through to completion
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A proactive, practical "can-do" attitude
