Our Client
Leading UK provider of bespoke automation and robotic systems with nearly 50 years of expertise based near Leicester.
Expanding due to strategic growth and ongoing business success.
Core Responsibilities for this Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role include:
- Project Delivery: As Senior mechanical design engineer, lead and oversee special purpose machine projects from order acceptance to final customer handover on time and within budget.
- 3D CAD Design: Perform mechanical design, detailing, and 3D modeling (preferably Solid Edge) for multiple simultaneous projects.
- Design Reviews and Approvals: Organize internal design reviews and secure formal customer Design Pass Off.
- Documentation and Compliance: Create Bill of Materials (BOMs), compile Technical Construction Files (TCFs), and perform risk assessments to ensure CE marking and Machinery Directive compliance.
- Supplier and Cost Management: Negotiate with suppliers for cost-effective components and maintain strict adherence to project budgets.
- Cross-Functional Support: Partner closely with electrical engineers, direct machine fitters during the build, and mentor junior team members.
- Client and Site Engagement: Conduct customer site visits for dimensional surveys, requirements gathering, and periodic project status reviews.
- Sales Support: Assist sales teams during quotation stages to optimize concepts, reduce lead times, and mitigate technical risks.

- Education and Experience: Degree/HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 5 years of senior mechanical design engineer experience in automation or special purpose machinery and based near Leicester.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in 3D parametric CAD (Solid Edge preferred; SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo considered).
- Domain Knowledge: Strong expertise in robotics, mechanisms, pneumatic systems, and UK/international machine safety standards.
- Commercial and Communication Skills: Strong commercial awareness, effective communication across all business levels, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
