Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Construction)
Location: The successful candidate can be based from any of our offices in Sidcup, Blackfriars, Birmingham, Oxford or Stevenage, with hybrid working available.
Hours: 8.30am to 5pm
Salary: DOE

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to play a leading role within a growing Building Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer looking to take ownership of projects, lead technical delivery and support the development of junior team members.
You will act as the lead mechanical engineer on a range of projects, delivering high-quality mechanical building services designs from concept through to completion whilst ensuring compliance, quality and client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Lead Mechanical Engineer on a variety of building services projects.
- Lead and manage the delivery of mechanical engineering designs across all RIBA work stages.
- Undertake and review surveys of existing mechanical services installations.
- Produce and coordinate:
- Mechanical designs
- Technical drawings and BIM models
- Specifications
- Technical reports
- Feasibility studies
- Tender documentation
- Tender assessments and recommendations
- Prepare and review mechanical design calculations using recognised industry software.
- Carry out building performance, energy and sustainability assessments.
- Review and provide technical guidance on work completed by engineers and technicians.
- Ensure designs comply with British Standards, Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry best practice.
- Deliver projects to agreed client requirements, timescales and budgets.
- Support commissioning activities, witnessing, snagging and defect inspections.
- Contribute to technical reviews and quality assurance processes.
- Mentor and support Graduate, Intermediate and Senior Engineers.
- Support recruitment, staff development and performance review activities.
- Promote a collaborative team culture and continuous professional development.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- A minimum of 6-8 years' experience within a Building Services Consultancy environment.
- At least 3 years' experience operating in a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer or similar position.
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, public health and sustainable building systems.
- Experience delivering projects through all RIBA stages.
- Experience using relevant design and BIM software packages.
- Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance and industry standards.
- Experience working within BIM environments and ISO 19650 workflows.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational, planning and project management capabilities.
- The ability to build strong client and stakeholder relationships.
