The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing Building Services consultancy in Manchester. The successful candidate will join an established MEP team, working on a varied portfolio of projects across sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, residential, retail and leisure. This is an opportunity for a Senior Engineer to take ownership of projects, work directly with clients and stakeholders, and support the development of junior members of the team.
The Role
You will be responsible for the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects, including:
- Taking ownership of projects and client relationships
- Establishing project scope and design requirements
- Producing mechanical working designs, drawings, specifications and reports
- Preparing mechanical design calculations and equipment selections
- Producing schematics, layouts and design documentation
- Carrying out site surveys, investigations and information gathering
- Monitoring project progress and managing design changes
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and best practice
- Working collaboratively with other engineers and design professionals
- Supporting and mentoring junior engineers
- Promoting sustainable and low-carbon design solutions
- Contributing to client development and business development activities

Technical Requirements
Experience across the following areas would be beneficial:
- Mechanical ventilation and air conditioning
- Heating and cooling systems
- Domestic hot and cold water
- Foul, waste and rainwater drainage
- Mechanical design calculations
- British Standards and Building Regulations
- CDM and health & safety in design
- Sustainable and low-carbon design
- Revit and AutoCAD
- IES or similar dynamic simulation software
- Knowledge of modern methods of construction and acoustic requirements relating to mechanical and electrical plant would also be advantageous.

About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years' experience within the Building Services industry
- A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent Building Services/Mechanical Engineering qualification
- Strong mechanical building services design experience
- Good knowledge of British Standards, Building Regulations and industry guidance
- Experience managing projects and client relationships
- The ability to work independently and take ownership
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers
- A proactive and commercially aware approach
- Working towards Chartership/CEng is desirable
