Job title: Mechanical Design Engineer / Lead Mechanical Design Engineer (dependent on experience)
Location: Dundee
Salary: £50,000 - £70,000, dependent on experience
About the role:
We're looking to grow our mechanical design team with one new hire, and we're open to bringing this person in as a Mechanical Design Engineer or a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, depending on the calibre and experience of the right candidate. Following recent investment, there is genuine scope for the role and the team to grow further, so we're keen to hear from strong candidates at either level.
You will work proactively and collaboratively with clients, staff and other networked experts to provide comprehensive design and high-level, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions, and to produce high-quality, detailed and accurate engineering documentation that drives the successful delivery of projects and product development initiatives.
Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for formulating and producing valid and viable design solutions quickly, taking projects from concept through to customer delivery. This is underpinned by an acute, practical understanding of mechanical systems, assemblies, 3D modelling, manufacturing operations, BOM creation, 2D drawings, and available materials and technologies. You will actively support the business development process through the creation of bespoke drawings for proposals and by meeting prospective and current customers to ensure design requirements are correctly captured and documented in the scope of work. You will also produce design-for-manufacturing specification documents which meet or exceed British engineering standards and approved codes of practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
