Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - SAQ & Sustaining Engineering

Bristol (Hybrid) | Up to £52,000 + Benefits

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading engineering organisation in Bristol, providing technical support through the Single Agenda for Quality (SAQ) process. This is a key sustaining engineering role focused on solving live product issues, leading root cause investigations, and delivering engineering solutions that ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of equipment in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations into field and manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving methodologies, including 8D and root cause analysis.
  • Deliver corrective and preventive actions to resolve product and subsystem failures.
  • Manage engineering changes (ECR/ECO), updating drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
  • Support product reliability, compliance, and safety through risk assessments, FMEA updates, and design reviews.
  • Manage component obsolescence and supplier-driven changes.
  • Identify opportunities for product improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, and Supplier teams to deliver effective engineering solutions.

About You

Essential:

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in mechanical design within a regulated engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of product development lifecycles and Design for Manufacture/Assembly principles.
  • Advanced 3D CAD skills.
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and delivering robust engineering solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving and project delivery skills.

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards accreditation.
  • Functional Safety qualifications.
  • Experience within semiconductor or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of FMEA, HAZOP, LOPA, EN61511, SEMI S2, and SEMI S10.
