Senior Mechanical Designer – Mechanical Engineering Design Team

Location: Severn Beach, Bristol

Joining our team at our brand-new, cutting-edge manufacturing and development facility presents an exciting opportunity to advance semiconductor manufacturing equipment—critical for breakthroughs in medical devices, electric vehicles, and quantum technologies.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you’ll drive new product development, continuous improvement, and lifecycle management while collaborating across multidisciplinary engineering teams. Core challenges include designing systems involving high vacuum, extreme temperatures, fluid flow, safety compliance, and precision control.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality mechanical designs, including 3D models, detailed drawings, and product modifications
  • Conduct design verification and validation through calculations, simulations, and prototype testing
  • Ensure regulatory and industry compliance (BS, EN, SEMI) and adherence to company standards
  • Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation (manuals, technical files)
  • Collaborate with teams to define clear, complete, and manufacturable design specifications
  • Translate technical requirements into structured, modular design solutions
  • Lead problem-solving and root-cause analysis for manufacturing, testing, and customer challenges
  • Drive continuous improvement in products and processes
  • Own design projects to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery
  • Manage assigned work packages, maintaining stakeholder communication
  • Ensure HSE best practices are upheld across all activities

About You

We’re looking for a proactive, technically strong engineer with:

  • Experience in mechanical system and mechanism design (proven in CE or advanced manufacturing preferred)
  • Strong capability in design verification & validation—including calculations, simulations (e.g., FEA, CFD), and testing
  • Project leadership or cross-functional collaboration: Experience leading initiatives or contributing to agile teams
  • Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, welding, assembly)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with expertise in root-cause analysis
  • Proficiency in:
    • 3D CAD (e.g., Solid Edge)
    • PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, MathWorks EcoSystem)
    • Standard engineering tools (ANSYS, AutoCAD, MATLAB)
  • Strong understanding of engineering best practices and commercial considerations
  • Ability to analyse data and make informed engineering decisions

Qualifications:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline (preferred) or HNC/Diploma (equivalents accepted)
