Up to GBP48,000

The Situation

An experienced Mechanical Design Engineer is required to join a leading rail engineering and infrastructure organisation that is continuing to invest in its Engineering Design capability.

This Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, testing and validation of specialist railway maintenance and infrastructure equipment used across the UK rail network. The successful individual will become a technical specialist within the organisation, supporting both the enhancement of an established product portfolio and the development of innovative new engineering solutions.

Working within a collaborative engineering environment, the role will involve partnering with engineering teams across multiple UK locations to deliver products that operate safely and effectively within a highly regulated, safety–critical industry.

This is a cradle–to–grave engineering position, offering involvement from concept design and feasibility studies through to manufacture, verification, validation and product approval.

The Opportunity

  • Become a technical specialist within a respected rail engineering business.
  • Work on complex mechanical systems incorporating hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Play a key role in both new product introduction and existing product improvement projects.
  • Cradle–to–grave involvement across the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Exposure to a wide range of specialist rail infrastructure and maintenance equipment.
  • Hybrid working arrangement with collaboration across multiple UK engineering locations.
  • Opportunity to develop expertise within a highly regulated, safety–critical engineering environment.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
