Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services

Kings Cross, London | Contract | Up to £50 per hour (LTD)

Global Engineering Talent is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of an established Building Services consultancy expanding its operations with a new office in Kings Cross.

The business has operated successfully for eight years and is now entering an exciting stage of growth following a significant number of recent project wins.

This is an opportunity to join its London office at a key point in its development, taking ownership of projects and helping to shape how the team operates as it grows.

The role

You will lead the mechanical design and delivery of Building Services projects across a varied portfolio, including hotels and other commercial developments.

You will be predominantly based from the new Kings Cross office, with travel to project sites across London and occasional visits to the company’s Peterborough headquarters when required.

With no full-time Director permanently based in the London office, you must be comfortable working autonomously, making decisions and driving projects forward without requiring constant supervision.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the mechanical design of Building Services projects from concept through to detailed design
  • Designing HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water and drainage systems
  • Producing calculations, specifications, schedules and technical reports
  • Undertaking heat-loss, cooling-load, ventilation and energy calculations
  • Coordinating mechanical designs with architectural, structural and electrical disciplines
  • Attending client, design-team and site meetings
  • Reviewing drawings and technical information
  • Identifying design risks and resolving technical issues
  • Managing your own workload against project programmes and deadlines
  • Supporting junior engineers as the team develops
  • Helping establish effective design standards, systems and ways of working within the London office

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
