Senior Mechanical Engineer

Southampton area, SO40 4BL | Onsite, 4.5 days per week

Up to £60k per annum + Benefits

Our client is a specialist engineering business designing and manufacturing bespoke machinery and equipment for a range of demanding sectors. Due to continued growth and investment in advanced manufacturing capabilities, they are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team.

This is a key technical role, with responsibility for leading mechanical design activities and contributing to product development, safety, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of complex machinery, developing CAD models and detailed drawings using Solid Edge.
  • Design bespoke machinery components, including frames, enclosures, and structural elements, ensuring they meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Develop material handling systems, including loading, unloading, fixturing, and operator interaction.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers to ensure effective mechanical integration of electrical and RF equipment.
  • Manage suppliers, contract manufacturers, and external vendors to deliver designs to specification and quality standards.
  • Produce technical documentation including BOMs, design calculations, and risk assessments.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience designing industrial machinery or bespoke process equipment.
  • Strong 3D CAD experience, particularly Solid Edge, with a good understanding of 2D drafting.
  • Experience with materials, manufacturing processes, and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and drive systems, including stepper and servo motors, would be advantageous.
