The Senior Mechanical Engineer

This is an outstanding opportunity to:

Develop all Mechanical aspects within the Linx Mechanical team consisting of four people. We are looking for an outstanding Senior Mechanical Engineer who will develop Linx products from initial concept through to final support, whilst meeting demanding customer requirements, adhering to and developing strong engineering discipline principles, including ownership, accountability and ensuring first time high-quality delivery.

This is a professional, hands-on technical role, focused on engineering excellence, predictable cadence, adherence to process, product quality, whilst contributing to the continuous improvements of the mechanical processes, requirements definition, FMEAs, design reviews and verification.

In this role, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will work across all Linx products to develop and maintain the next generation of printers. Working with the Mechanical Engineering Manager in Linx, St Ives, this is a great opportunity to use your industrial product development experience, engineering judgement and technical leadership, win with a great team and build relationships across the diverse Engineering departments. This includes daily interactions with the Mechanical, Electronics, Program Managers and Manufacturing engineers.

Your responsibilities

  • Complete engineering development of mechanical systems from concept through to production and field support, ensuring that design requirements, product performance, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability and cost objectives are achieved.
  • Accelerated product development of new printer products incorporating robust industrial product design and mass production techniques, using plastic mouldings, sheet metal work and designs for ease of production assembly. These robust systems include integration with complex mechanical, electronics and fluid systems to meet our customers’ high expectations.
  • Working towards agreed project milestones, ensuring robust execution of requirements capture, design reviews, verification, validation and risk management activities using FMEAs and working directly with suppliers to have effective DFM reviews. This would include defining and executing validation plans, driving through product failures and investigations to deliver a fully validated solution.
  • Continuously improves engineering capability through better requirements definition, risk management, test methods, design standards, lessons learned and development processes. This would include standard toolsets (CAD, DFM, PDM, FEA etc) to help reduce design time, right first time with reduced field failures, whilst also bringing new insights and engagement to Linx.
  • Technical specialist on all mechanical engineering matters that drive Linx’s products, including appreciation of the regulatory requirements for machine safety in a global market, whilst ensuring and maintaining a professional and safe working environment.

We are looking for a professional who is:

  • Motivated, upbeat and continually seeks to improve Linx’s products.
  • Creative with a good balance of risk, self-management, cadence and pace.
  • Curious, with a genuine interest in engineering with an inquiring mind that enjoys pro-actively tackling and solving customer focussed problems.
  • A hands-on Engineer who develops world class products, personally building, testing and evaluating products while maintaining consistently high standards and unwavering ethics.
  • Self-disciplined to execute and reinforce standard processes covering design, review, verification, and risk management.
  • Experienced using CAD, simulation and structured problem solving to drive product development.
  • Collaborative individual able to work with different people, companies, and processes, who ultimately owns the product performance and reliability.

Your Education and/or Background Experience

  • A proven track record in developing industrial products at scale
  • Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Automotive Engineering or time-served experience in a relevant industry
  • Working in a multidisciplinary design team to develop industrial components and products, incorporating electronics and software within the Engineering department of a commercial company.
  • Detailed knowledge on topics including mechanical engineering principles, sophisticated system integration, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.
  • Design of products using CAE tools, integrating solid, fluid and thermo mechanics, electronics, and software.
  • Experienced in SolidWorks, Creo, with additional use of Adobe Illustrator and Windchill a distinct advantage.
